One of the most prominent attractions in the city, Cubbon Park is one of its kind. Situated in the heart of the city it is the most visited park in the entire city. Spread over a huge area of 300 acres Cubbon park is surrounded by many government buildings, heritage centres, and historical monuments.

History

Cubbon Park was constructed in 1870 by then Chief Minister of Mysore state Major General Richard Sankey. It was filled with greenery initially as a middle space among the Historic buildings. The park was initially named Meade’s Park which was later changed to Cubbon Park after Sir Mark Cubbon. It is filled with various trees, flowerbeds, bamboos, and some monumental statues.

The park houses a variety of flower plants and trees which form the majority of the park. Despite being in the heart of the city the greenery and the plant life in the park are well maintained. The trees range from oak trees that cover the walkway through the park there are also Gulmohar trees that are widely grown in the park.

Apart from beautiful nature, there are plenty of other attractions to captivate visitor’s attention. Being a park surrounded by many historical monuments the park has also witnessed many public protests and gatherings making it a prominent spot for such activities. Bandstand in the Cubbon Park

An octagonal-shaped bandstand located in the park is a spot where many musical performances have taken place. It has witnessed performances of some of the most famous musicians in their earlier days. It is also a treasure house of fond memories of the old Bangalore.

Karnataka High Court

The Karnataka High Court is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Located opposite to the Vidhan Soudha is an alluring spot to visit in Bangalore near Cubbon Park. The building was built in 1864. The gothic style of construction is the primary attraction of the building. A statue of Cubbon made by Baron Marochetti is located behind the court.

Sheshadri Iyer Memorial Hall

Constructed in the memory of Sir K. Seshadri Iyer the building represents the British style of construction. The placement of the building is in such a way that the entire greenery of the park can be enjoyed. Presently the building is used as a library. The library also contains a Braille section adding to its advantage.

Jawahar Bal Bhavan

This is an amusement part built for the children of age group 5-16 years. Events and activities are conducted here across the year to facilitate kids. Inaugurated in the year 1967 this place is one of the main attractions of the park. There is also a toy train ride present here.
