Rajasthan’s sole hill station, Mount Abu, is nestled in the lap of the Aravalli Range, making it an incredibly picturesque destination. It is in fact, located right at the border of Rajasthan and Gujarat offering gorgeous views and scope for a plethora of adventure activities. Apart from a boat ride at Nakki Lake and watching sun-down at Sunset Point, here’s what you must do when in Mount Abu:

Trek to Guru Sikhar – the highest peak of Aravalli

Located about 15km from Mount Abu, Guru Sikhar is the highest peak in the Aravalli’s. Situated at an altitude of 1,722m, the trek to Guru Sikhar is thrilling and moderately challenging. Keep an eye out for the beautiful Guru Dattatreya Temple on your way up.

Wildlife-spotting at Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

Spread across 290 square kilometres, Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary boasts of many endangered species of flora and fauna. The most common ones spotted on a jungle trek here are leopards, jungle cat, sloth bear, jackal, hyena, wolves, sambhar and wild boar, along with 250 species of birds, including the nearly extinct grey jungle fowl.

Camping and trekking in the Aravalli

Trekking through the Aravalli’s and camping in and around Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, is one of the best things to do in this hill town. Apart from trekking through the forest trails and camping overnight in tents, you can also try rock climbing and rappelling.

Crocodile and bird-watching at Trevor’s Tank

A man-made reservoir, Trevor’s Tank is where you can spot crocodiles and a variety of fish in Mount Abu. Additionally, this place is also where you’ll spot a variety of birds such as peacocks and partridges, courtesy the verdant forests and rocky outcrops in the region.

Spelunking in the hill caves

For those who love exploring caves, there’s good scope for it in Mount Abu. You can explore wild cave systems such as the Champaa Caves for a one-of-a-kind experience.
